I stumbled across "Alpha Attacked" during one of my late-night audiobook browsing sessions, and as someone who practically lives for urban fantasy and shifter romances, I was immediately intrigued. Let me tell you, darlings, this book definitely delivers on the contemporary urban fantasy front. I absolutely adored how the author wove supernatural elements into a present-day setting – they even mentioned Dexter! As someone who binge-watches crime shows while eating chocolate-covered almonds (my guilty pleasure), these modern references made everything feel more grounded and relatable. The chemistry between our main characters, Maeve and Griffin, sparked some interest, though I wish it had been a bit more electric. Griffin is your typical alpha male werewolf – you know the type, all broody and protective – while Maeve brings her medical expertise to the table. The whole ER-doctor-meets-supernatural-world scenario had so much potential! However, I have to be honest with you (because that's just who I am). The pacing felt a bit rushed at times, like watching someone try to squeeze into skinny jeans two sizes too small – it just doesn't quite work. And while I usually love a good enemies-to-lovers situation, some of Maeve's initial attitudes, particularly toward patients seeking pain relief, left a bitter taste in my mouth. What I did enjoy was the world-building and the secondary characters. There's this whole pack dynamic that adds layers to the story, and some of the side characters absolutely stole the show. I found myself wanting to know more about them, which I suppose is good news since this is apparently part of a series. Would I recommend it? Well, if you're looking for a light, entertaining paranormal romance with modern flair, this could be your cup of tea (or in my case, spiced chai latte with extra foam).
