My Review
I just finished - "Immortal by Morning" by Lynsay Sands! I discovered it quite by accident while browsing at my local bookshop, and even though it's the 37th(!) book in the Argeneau series, I found myself completely enchanted.
As someone who adores both paranormal romance and police procedurals, this story hit all the right notes for me. The premise is absolutely fascinating - immortals who trace their lineage back to Atlantis, powered by advanced nanotechnology rather than traditional vampire lore. How refreshingly scientific! I particularly loved how the author wove together the murder mystery elements with the developing romance between our detective Crispin and the clever executive assistant Abril.
The chemistry between the main characters practically leapt off the page, and I appreciated that their relationship developed naturally alongside the investigation of the skeleton discovery. The author managed to balance the steamy moments with genuine emotional connection, which is exactly what I look for in paranormal romance.
I will say the pacing in the first half felt a bit slow for my taste, with perhaps too much time spent on the excavation details. However, once the story picked up steam, I could hardly put it down! The world-building is incredibly rich, and even as a newcomer to the series, I never felt lost or overwhelmed by the mythology.
What really impressed me was how the author handled the "life mate" concept - it felt fresh and meaningful rather than falling into tired soulmate tropes. And the supporting cast of immortal characters added such wonderful depth to the story! I found myself grinning at their banter and family dynamics.
For anyone wondering whether to dive in: while I'm sure reading the series in order would be rewarding, I found this worked perfectly well as a standalone. I give it 4 out of 5 stars - it's a thoroughly entertaining blend of romance, mystery, and paranormal elements that has me eager to explore more of this series.

Book Description
Being an immortal rogue enforcer is never easy. But when human bones are found buried in a residential garden—and they happen to be discovered by your life mate—things get even more complicated in this latest installment of the Argeneau vampire series.
Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective. But in his quiet city, he’s more likely to be rounding up truant teens than investigating murders. So, when he learns that human bones have been found in the garden of a sprawling rural home, it’s unexpected to say the least.
Abril Newman can’t believe her bad luck when she discovers a body buried on the grounds of her boss’s home, while chasing after Gina’s mischievous lab Lilith. She was just supposed to be house-sitting for a few days! And then Detective Delacort arrives. She knows she shouldn’t be thinking about love when there’s a crime scene outside the door. But ignoring her attraction to gorgeous Crispin is easier said than done.
When Crispin realizes that a rogue is involved, he knows this won’t be a simple investigation. Especially because he’s so distracted by Abril’s presence that all he wants is to kiss her senseless in every room of the manor. But he can woo her, solve the case, and stop a dangerous rogue by morning... right? All in a day’s work.
