As someone who's always been drawn to paranormal romance (and particularly fond of grumpy heroes who turn to mush for their mates), this book hit all my sweet spots. The story centers around Julian, a grizzly shifter tattoo artist who's been getting increasingly cranky waiting for his mate, and Lainey, who walks into his shop for what she thinks will be a simple flower tattoo. Their instant connection practically sizzled off my screen! The chemistry between them is electric, and I loved how the author balanced the fated mates trope with genuine emotional development. I particularly enjoyed the family dynamic at the tattoo shop - Julian's siblings add such wonderful depth to the story. The whole setup of shifters running a tattoo parlor is honestly genius. And can we talk about how refreshingly different it was to have a heroine who, despite being human, seemed to instinctively understand the mate bond? That said, I did have a few niggles. The whole non-consensual tattoo situation made me a bit uncomfortable, even though I understand it was meant to show how strongly Julian's bear responded to finding his mate. Also, I would have loved to see more development of the secondary characters, especially Lainey's friends. But overall? This was a delightfully steamy, sweet, and sometimes funny read that perfectly scratches that paranormal romance itch.
