My Review
*Written as Farahilda's personal review*
I stumbled across this wolf shifter novel during one of my late-night reading binges, and despite my usual skepticism about the genre, I found myself completely absorbed in its world. As someone who practically lives in bookstores and has read more paranormal romances than I care to admit, I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking - but this one surprised me in several ways.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between the main characters had me hooked from the start. There's something deliciously compelling about watching two people who are literally fated to be together fighting their attraction with everything they've got. The addition of witches and magic added layers to what could have been just another shifter story, and I particularly appreciated how the author wove supernatural politics and pack dynamics into the narrative.
I absolutely loved the tension the author managed to maintain throughout the story. The slow build of trust between the characters felt earned rather than forced, and the magical elements were integrated naturally into the world-building. The concept of an "Annulator" - someone who can cancel out magic - was a fresh take I hadn't seen before in similar books.
However (and this is where I need to be honest), this book has some serious structural issues that tested my patience. At over 600 pages, it feels like three different books smooshed together without proper transitions. The editing could have been much tighter, and there were moments when I had to reread passages due to sudden perspective shifts that left me confused.
The biggest disappointment? The cliffhanger ending that wasn't clearly advertised. As someone who likes to binge complete series, this felt like a bit of a betrayal. I wish publishers would be more upfront about books being part of an ongoing series.
Despite these drawbacks, I found myself genuinely invested in the story and its characters. It's like finding a diamond in the rough - there's definitely something special here, even if it needs some polishing.
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐½ (3.5 out of 5 stars)
Would I recommend it? Yes, but with caveats. If you're willing to overlook some technical issues and don't mind waiting for the next installment, there's a compelling story here that will keep you reading well past your bedtime. Just know what you're getting into - and maybe keep some coffee handy for those late-night reading sessions!
