My Review
The setting absolutely enchanted me - a touristy island in Lake Huron with not one, but two witch covens? The author created such a cozy atmosphere that I found myself wanting to book a vacation there, ghostly encounters and all! I particularly loved how the story centered around three sisters living off the grid, practicing water magic passed down from their Scottish fae ancestors. It reminded me of the summers I spent at my grandmother's coastal cottage, though sadly without any actual magic.
The romance was sweet, if a bit rushed for my taste. I'm usually a slow-burn romance fan, so the quick connection between the main characters had me raising an eyebrow. However, the ghost tour element added such a delightful twist to their meet-cute that I found myself forgiving the speedy progression of their relationship.
What truly captured my heart was the blend of supernatural elements with everyday life. The author has this wonderful ability to make paranormal situations feel completely natural, like finding out your neighbor's cat can talk - surprising, but somehow not shocking. The sister dynamics were particularly well-done, though I would have loved to dive deeper into their relationships.
My one disappointment was that the water magic folklore wasn't explored as deeply as it could have been. There were so many fascinating threads that could have been pulled, but the story stayed mostly on the surface. Also, while the ghostly aspects were fun, I found myself wanting more complexity in the magical system.
For anyone considering this book, I'd say it's perfect for those cozy autumn evenings when you want something light and enchanting, with just enough spook to make you check over your shoulder (but not enough to keep you up at night). It's like a warm cup of pumpkin spice latte with a splash of supernatural charm.
★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 stars) - While not perfect, it's a delightful escape that left me eager to return to this magical world.
