My Review

Oh my goodness, I just devoured Christine Feehan's "Thunder Game" in practically one sitting! As someone who adores both paranormal elements and military precision in my romance novels, this latest addition to the GhostWalker series really called to me, even though I've had a somewhat complicated relationship with the previous books. What struck me immediately was how deeply the book delves into mental health and trauma healing. As a counselor myself (I work primarily with veterans), I found the portrayal of Diego's struggles particularly compelling and authentic. The way Feehan weaves together the supernatural elements with very real human challenges shows such sensitivity - though I must admit, some scenes hit almost too close to home. I absolutely adored the slow-burn romance between Diego and Leila. Their gradual development of trust and understanding felt so genuine, especially given their respective backgrounds. The banter between them provided such wonderful moments of lightness in what could otherwise have been an overwhelmingly heavy narrative. However (and here's where I get a bit critical), I found the pacing somewhat uneven. While I appreciate the attention given to the healing process, there were stretches where the story seemed to lose momentum. I kept waiting for that signature GhostWalker action to pick up again, and when it did, it felt almost rushed in comparison to the earlier slower sections. One thing I particularly loved was the family dynamic among the GhostWalkers. As someone who grew up in a large, close-knit family, these interactions felt so authentic and warm. The way they support each other while still maintaining their individual quirks and personalities is just *chef's kiss*. Would I recommend this book? Absolutely, especially for readers who appreciate deeper emotional exploration in their paranormal romance. Just be prepared for a slower middle section and know that the action comes in waves rather than a constant stream. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5 stars) P.S. My cat Minerva kept trying to steal my kindle while I was reading this - she seems to have particularly good taste in paranormal romance!

Book Description

Diego Campos has come home to die. The GhostWalker is tired of walking a dark path shaped by countless losses. There has never been a moment of good in his life that wasn’t followed by something bad. But as he makes his way to his family’s homestead in the Appalachian Mountains, his plans are interrupted by a violent ambush that sets his life on a new course. In between fighting off a small army of assailants, Diego is struck by a beautiful, brutal warrior woman unlike anyone he’s encountered before. Compelled to rescue her, Diego uses his psychic gifts to make Leila’s broken body whole again and save her from certain death. With each new breath she regains her strength, showcasing her humor, intelligence and courage as she reveals the truths of her past and inspires feelings Diego never thought his heart could experience. After a lifetime alone, in the middle of firefight, Diego has finally found a light to guide him through the darkness—and one brief touch is enough to set them both aflame.
